Cirrus clouds are wispy, feathery appearing clouds that almost look like streaks of white paint high in the sky. Since they are so high, they are composed entirely of ice crystals. Cirrus clouds are often the first sign of approaching warm air. We will discuss why this is the case in future lectures particularly when we discuss frontal systems.
