The Educause IMS Project seeks to address the significant obstacles to providing effective online content and learning environments.

IMS seeks to describe a specific set of higher-order standards that will govern how teachers, content developers and software developers will collaborate to provide the most effective possible online learning environments.

SCORM - Shareable Courseware Objects Reference Model

The SCORM specification combines the work of the AICC and the IMS Global Learning Consortium to achieve an evolving document that addresses both interoperability and reusability.

Educator has a concept called Common Folders that strongly supports the SCORM concept.

Common Folders enable faculty to seamlessly share and transfer individual learning objects or groups of learning objects within the front end of Educator.

Below is an illustrative examples of the Common Folders Principle in Educator:

Step 1: Faculty forms a Common Folder

Step 2: Faculty goes back to his/her content management area, selects a file and elects to move the file to his/her newly formed Common Folder

Step 3: Different faculty accesses the Common Folders area and attempts to enter the Common Folder e-Learning Specifications. User must enter the password that the original user set for the Common Folder.

Step 4: Faculty accesses the Interoperability.doc file within the Common Folder and elects to Import the content into his/her course management system.

The above scenario displays how easy it is for faculty to share individual/chunks of learning objects self-contained within the Infrastructure of the Educator Platform.
